How to check your home for damage

Carefully inspect each upper-level rooms’ ceiling and walls for water stains or signs of water leaks. Dark spots on walls and the ceiling are common signs of water leaks and damage. If access to an attic or crawl space is easy to check, carefully inspect your attic for signs of water damage and leaks. Use a flashlight and look for dark areas on wood and possible water stained areas.
